RiverThrough my life, I watched the world spin without my consent. Watching people drift in and out of my life like leaves on a river, the current pulling them out as quickly as they arrived. I feel helpless on the banks, unable to step into the river and flow along with it. Faces reflected on the water smile brightly and ripple away. I reach for them and they disappear. So when the leaf fell from the branch, I watched it sail towards the river, I knew to leave me. I reached out and found the leaf in my hand and held it close. Relief with the control. ReprievePain comes in many forms. The pain of depression at the world turning against you. The loneliness of the dark corner you found to escape. Then there is the regret, regret at wrong choices, the shattering of everything you had built. Then the regret as you see those you care about worry for what you consider to be worthless. Regret that the one you love is worried for trash like you. Your one light dimming with worry. Yet that light pulls you forward, out of misery, out of despair. NumbHere I lay, the cold cement against my back. I don't feel it. Conflicts of the day fade from memory, thoughts of the morrow vanish. A creeping numbness overtakes me. at the dawn I ran down the road, excited for the day. Cares flung to the wind. Then I reached the crossroads, and my feet stopped. I could see where each path would lead. To my left stood an angel behind a veil, a chance at life, love. The right path stretched on forever, an escape from everything, no choices left to make. EmptyHow painful it is, to open a heart. Be it to another, or even to yourself. Pain that is yours alone is confined and ignored. Pushed away into a forgotten corner.
